Saying goodbye and thank you to our Girls’ Choir Leavers

A small number gathered in the Abbey on Sunday for a trial service, which will help us work towards starting services again in August. It was the first time members of the Abbey family have been able to worship together and receive Communion in the church building in months. It was memorable for this reason, but also because we said farewell to five of the girls from our Choir: Nicola, Ella, Clara, Isabel and Naomi with 23 combined years of service between them.

Huw Williams, Director of Music, said: “It was lovely to see the girls yesterday and it was good to be back in the Abbey. We may not have been able to sing together but we were together in person, with one chorister singing ‘The Lord bless you and keep you’ as a musical tribute to the leavers who we will miss greatly. Normally we would be able to honour these girls publicly in an Abbey service with the congregation. Unfortunately circumstances meant this was a private event, but I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them officially. These girls’ loyalty, faithfulness, hard work and musical skill are what make the Abbey Girls Choir such an excellent musical body and we are really grateful to them for all that they have contributed to us over the years. Thank you, we wish you every success for the future.”
