Learning volunteers make students of all ages feel welcome, guiding them through activities created by our Learning Officer on a range of topics involving the Abbey’s history, including its Anglo Saxon, Medieval, Tudor and Georgian past.

Welcomers are the first person a visitor to Bath Abbey meets, and as the name suggests you’ll be giving a warm, friendly and sensitive welcome to all who enter the Abbey. You’ll also provide the key pieces of information that our guests need to get the most of their visit, letting them know about our Stewards and Chaplains, and any tours, exhibitions or events that are on. Stewards make visitors from around the world feel at home in the Abbey, by answering questions about the history, architecture and religious nature of the Abbey, or the City of Bath and sometimes, just by having a chat with someone who will appreciate it. It’s a varied volunteer opportunity where you might also be asked to help a person in need - by finding one of the Chaplains for a quiet talk, or to be the eyes of the Bath Abbey team with regard to simple housekeeping tasks and health and safety.
