Join our team

Here at Bath Abbey, we have a team of over 300 volunteers! We are so grateful to them as they support us in simply everything from helping welcome our visitors to ringing the bells for services. Volunteering could be a great way to meet new people while allowing you to make the most of your interests and existing skills - it also can be very satisfying and a lot of fun. Just ask one of our many enthusiastic and lively volunteers whose ages range from 18 to over 80!

Volunteer sitting talking to a group of school children

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteers:

Welcomers provide a warm, friendly and sensitive welcome to all who enter the Abbey, and are the first faces a visitor will see. They give brief initial information and accept entry donations. We are currently looking for welcomers. To view a full description of what this would involve, please click here.

Stewards make visitors from around the world feel at home in the Abbey, by answering questions about the history, architecture and religious nature of the Abbey, or the City of Bath and sometimes, just by having a chat with someone who will appreciate it. It’s a varied volunteer opportunity where you might also be asked to help a person in need - by finding one of the Chaplains for a quiet talk, or to be the eyes of the Bath Abbey team with regard to simple housekeeping tasks and health and safety. We are currently looking for stewards. To view a full description of what this would involve, please click here

Visitor Research Volunteer
Visitor Research Volunteers support the work of Bath Abbey by collecting information about our visitors and gather feedback on their experience. This helps us better understand who our visitors are, why they come and how we can improve our visitor experience. This role is based in the Abbey and focuses on engaging with visitors at the end of their visit. Volunteers are provided with a visitor survey, either on paper or an iPad, and actively encourage visitors to complete it. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. If you would like to apply for this role, please view the full description here

Music Supporters
Would you like to share in the musical highlights at the Abbey? We are currently looking for volunteers to help out with occasional choir activities. We are also seeking someone with needlework skills to oversee the fitting and occasional alteration of choir robes. If you think you may be interested, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact Mary Horner, Music Administrator: MHorner@bathabbey.org or 01225 422462.
