Join our team

Here at Bath Abbey, we have a team of over 300 volunteers! We are so grateful to them as they support us in simply everything from helping welcome our visitors to ringing the bells for services. Volunteering could be a great way to meet new people while allowing you to make the most of your interests and existing skills - it also can be very satisfying and a lot of fun. Just ask one of our many enthusiastic and lively volunteers whose ages range from 18 to over 80!

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteers:

Visitor Experience Admin Volunteer
The Visitor Experience Admin Volunteer supports the work of the Visitor Services Team in several ways. They complete regular administrative tasks to help prepare the team for the week ahead, provide exceptional customer service by answering visitor enquiries by email and, under the guidance of the Visitor Services Manager and Deputy Visitor Services Manager, work on small projects to enhance the visitor experience at the Abbey. To view a full description of what would be involved, please click here.

Welcomers provide a warm, friendly and sensitive welcome to all who enter the Abbey, and are the first faces a visitor will see. They give brief initial information and accept entry donations. To view a full description of what this would involve, please click here.

Stewards make visitors from around the world feel at home in the Abbey, by answering questions about the history, architecture and religious nature of the Abbey, or the City of Bath and sometimes, just by having a chat with someone who will appreciate it. It’s a varied volunteer opportunity where you might also be asked to help a person in need - by finding one of the Chaplains for a quiet talk, or to be the eyes of the Bath Abbey team with regard to simple housekeeping tasks and health and safety. Footprint Behind the Scenes Tour Guides
Behind the Scenes Tour Guides will deliver a tour for groups of people which gives an insight into the building and conservation work taking place in the Abbey’s Footprint Project.  The tour takes the group to areas in and outside the church in which work is taking place.  Guides lead tours in pairs. The role is available until the end of the build phase of the Footprint Project (expected to end in 2021). To view a full description of what would be involved, please click here.

Music Supporters
Would you like to share in the musical highlights at the Abbey? We are currently looking for volunteers to help out with occasional choir activities. We are also seeking someone with needlework skills to oversee the fitting and occasional alteration of choir robes. If you think you may be interested, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact Mary Horner, Music Administrator: [email protected] or 01225 422462.
