Volunteers

Join our team

Here at Bath Abbey, we have a team of over 300 volunteers! We are so grateful to them as they support us in simply everything from helping welcome our visitors to ringing the bells for services. Volunteering could be a great way to meet new people while allowing you to make the most of your interests and existing skills - it also can be very satisfying and a lot of fun. Just ask one of our many enthusiastic and lively volunteers whose ages range from 18 to over 80!

You can view our open positions below.

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteers:

Learning Volunteer

Learning volunteers make students of all ages feel welcome, guiding them through activities created by our Learning Officer on a range of topics involving the Abbey’s history, including its Anglo Saxon, Medieval, Tudor and Georgian past.

You’ll be based in and around our brand new Learning Room on weekdays, and as part of this new team you’ll be shaping its future for years to come.

Operations Volunteer

A new role assisting our Operations Team. Perfect if you’re looking for a flexible volunteer opportunity, Ops volunteers help to prepare the Abbey for events and you might even help run them if you’ve got some tech know-how! To view a full description of what’s involved please click here.

Welcomers

Welcomers are the first person a visitor to Bath Abbey meets, and as the name suggests you’ll be giving a warm, friendly and sensitive welcome to all who enter the Abbey. You’ll also provide the key pieces of information that our guests need to get the most of their visit, letting them know about our Stewards and Chaplains, and any tours, exhibitions or events that are on. To view a full description of what this would involve, please click here.

Stewards

Stewards make visitors from around the world feel at home in the Abbey, by answering questions about the history, architecture and religious nature of the Abbey, or the City of Bath and sometimes, just by having a chat with someone who will appreciate it. It’s a varied volunteer opportunity where you might also be asked to help a person in need - by finding one of the Chaplains for a quiet talk, or to be the eyes of the Bath Abbey team with regard to simple housekeeping tasks and health and safety. To view a full description of what this would involve, please click here

Choir Chaperones

Would you like to support the future of music at Bath Abbey? We are currently looking for volunteers to help out with welcoming, accompanying and safeguarding the children in the boys’ and girls’ choirs. To view a full description of what’s involved, please click here.
