Lunchtime Recital – Chess Valley Male Voice Choir
Sat 23 September at 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm
Chess Valley Male Voice Choir is an amateur choir of around 40 men based in Chesham in the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire. This year is the 30th ‘birthday’ of the choir.
Each year we give 5 or 6 concerts including a musical tour where we look to broaden our horizons by performing in UK and European Cathedrals. Over the last few years we have performed in Lincoln and Norwich Cathedrals, Beverley and Southwell Minsters and Chartres Cathedral in France, to name just a few. This will be our third visit to Bath Abbey, having successfully performed there in 2016 and last year.
We use money raised from our concerts to support local music charities and we also successfully encourage young musical talent by inviting them to perform with us. Our primary aim, however, is just to enjoy making music together.
Last year, singing in Bath Abbey was considered to be the highlight of our performance year. We are excited to have been given the opportunity to repeat that again this year. Our programme typically consists of sacred music, contemporary hymns and songs, spirituals and gospel music, plus other traditional male voice repertoire.
