What is the solution?
After ten years of planning and consultation, we believe that Footprint can now become reality and will:
- Repair and stabilise the collapsing floor
- Provide a new eco-friendly underfloor heating system using Bath's famous hot springs
- Create a cohesive and unified infrastructure to transform the way Bath Abbey is able to welcome and serve its congregation, community, city and visitors from around the world
- Offer a calm and welcoming space for our congregation, pilgrims and visitors
- Enable over 400,000 visitors each year to experience and learn more about the Abbey’s rich history and its people, past and present
- Enable the Music Department to work with more local choirs, schools and hundreds of school children. The new double-height Song School housed in Kingston Buildings will include a purpose built rehearsal room, safe changing rooms and library for our choirs and visiting musicians.
- Put to use over 200 square metres of underground vaults within a restricted inner-city space
- Lessen our dependency on fossil fuels and reduce our carbon footprint
- Strengthen our links with local communities in particular through local community groups and other partner organisations
- Offer improved access and facilities for all including:
- Comfortable seating
- Toilets for all
- New kitchens and proper catering facilities
- A restored North Transept and new storage areas
- Adequate space for staff and volunteers
- A more comfortable and versatile worshipping space
- Provide the city with a stunning venue with the facilities modern audiences expect
