Prayers of the Bible – Bath Abbey Diptychs
Tue 30 August at 10:00 am until 5:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until Wed 28 September, 2022
This Abbey is a ‘house of prayer for all nations’. So wherever you have come from in the world, welcome.
This exhibition comprises Diptychs from the Abbeys New and Old Testament collections. Created by artist Sue Symons, each Diptych comprises a calligraphy panel illustrating a text from the Bible which Sue has then interpreted in an adjacent textile panel.
The selected Diptychs have been chosen for the way they illustrate the prayerful lives of people who feature in the Bible. These are men and women who believe in the holiness and goodness of God and who are remembered for their honest faith in Him through the everyday events of their lives. Explanatory notes with each Diptych give an insight into the nature of their relationship with God.
At the end of the exhibition visitors are invited to leave their own prayer, to contribute to the offering of prayer that makes this a ‘house of prayer for all nations’.
