Festival of Archaeology - Tours and family-friendly activities

Enjoy hands-on activities and learn about the past through the amazing discoveries from the Abbey's Footprint project.

  • Family-friendly drop-in sessions 10am-3pm
    Friday 26 July / 9am-1pm Saturday 27 July

    Wessex Archaeology will offer drop in sessions, including environmental sampling, artefact handling, and activities themed around the Abbey. You will also be able to put on 3D headsets to experience some of the 3D models of the archaeological dig at the Abbey so far.
     

  • On-site Archaeology Tours Friday 26 July only 9.45am & 12.45pm

     

  • Graffiti Tours of the North East Tower 10am, 12pm & 2pm Friday 26 July / 10am & 12pm Saturday 27 July

    Wiltshire Medieval Graffiti Survey will run tours themed around the fascinating graffiti hidden in the Abbey’s towers. Hands on activities will show how to recreate the graffiti designs found in the Abbey.

Tours are only suitable for those over 7 years of age.  Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  The Site tour goes into areas where building work is taking place.  The floor surface may be uneven in parts so the tours are unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.  All visitors and especially children must wear sturdy footwear (no sandals, flip-flops, or high heels).
