Welcome to Bath Abbey

A moment of stillness in the beating heart of a vibrant city. A space that’s alive with music and prayer, art and history. A place where awe-inspiring architecture lifts the eyes – and raises the spirit. Bath Abbey is many things to many people. But whether you come here to join a service or a tour, light a candle or listen to music, what unites us all is a sense of wonder. There is so much to discover – please step inside…

Revd Canon Bridgewater, Rector of Bath Abbey

Message from our Rector

“Come unto me, all you who are weary and are heavy laden” said Jesus to the crowds who gathered around him, “and I will give you rest”.

It is a great delight to be able to throw open the Abbey doors once again, so that all may draw near to the Lord in the stillness of this holy place. We hope that our visitors will share our joy in seeing the Abbey much changed since they last were here. With the floor now fully restored, the new eco-heating installed and the hoardings inside the Abbey taken down, the beauty of our renewed worship space is simply overwhelming.

I join the whole Bath Abbey family in praying for God’s love and renewing strength to greet you afresh, and to fill your hearts with peace as you draw near to Him”

The Revd Canon Guy Bridgewater
Rector of Bath Abbey

We are open for visiting

We look forward to welcoming you to Bath Abbey, and are open daily for visiting and worship.

You're invited to come in to pause and reflect, pray or light a candle. You'll be able to walk around and enjoy your surroundings or sit down and rest in the nave. The Birde Chapel and Gethsemane Chapel are also open and chaplains will be available to offer their support and prayers. Although we are not running group tours, there is still plenty to see and do.

However, as a working church, our opening times are subject to changes, sometimes at short notice. Please always check the Opening Hours on our website before visiting to avoid disappointment.

Public Health Information

We are supporting NHS Test & Trace so on entry one member of your group will be asked to provide contact details for all of you to support NHS Test & Trace. While face coverings are not mandatory, we are in support of wearing face coverings and ask you to please be respectful of other people's space. For more information please see: https://www.bathabbey.org/visiting/keeping-you-safe/

If and when Covid cases arise at Bath Abbey, in addition to the Test and Trace system, it is our policy to contact Public Health England. We will also apply the Dept. of Education rules used by Schools, to check whether a person’s proximity to fellow personnel at the Abbey presents any cause of infection concern.

Opening Hours

As a working church that plays an active role in the community, the Abbey is at times closed for general visiting due to services or special events. Please see changes and variations to opening times below.
