UPDATED 06/01/21: During lockdown, the Abbey is open only for private prayer and reflection (Sun-Sat, 12-2pm). The Abbey (including Tower & Shop) is closed for general sightseeing and visiting until further notice. In support of the Government's request for the public to stay at home, there will be no services in the Abbey; instead, we will be offering worship online and via social media.

Welcome to Bath Abbey

The Abbey is a place to come to God; we continue to welcome individuals for private prayer and quiet reflection. At the same time we are offering online worship and resources to support each other and the city of Bath through this difficult period.

Message from our Rector

“Come unto me, all you who are weary and are heavy laden” said Jesus to the crowds who gathered around him, “and I will give you rest”.

In this time of continuing anxiety and loving concern for each other, I am grateful that the Abbey can remain open for private prayer (between 12 noon and 2.00pm) each day during lockdown.

You are also invited to gather with us for worship online and will find fresh spiritual resources added daily on this website - and I join the whole Bath Abbey family in praying for God’s love and renewing strength to fill you afresh, and bring peace and hope as you draw near to Him.

The Revd Canon Guy Bridgewater
Rector of Bath Abbey

Services, Prayer and Support

During this third national lockdown, the Abbey remains open daily for private prayer and reflection. The Abbey and Shop will be closed for general sightseeing and visiting until further notice.

Prayer

The Abbey is open for individual prayer from 12 noon until 2pm every day. Our apologies, there may be some construction noise during your visit, except during the 1-1.30pm lunch-break.

You're welcome to come in to pause and reflect, pray or light a candle. The Birde Chapel and Gethsemane Chapel are open and a duty chaplain will be available to offer their support and prayers.

We would be grateful if you continue to observe our Covid-19 safety measures including wearing a face mask and physically distancing while in the Abbey.

Services

To support the government's request for the public to stay at home, we will not be offering communal service or Evensong on Sundays. Instead, we are offering a number of ways to worship with us online:

For more details on all our online services and how to join us, please see our Daily and Weekly Worship Online page.

Support

As we continue to navigate our way through the latest wave of Covid-19 we are reminded how much we need each other and the importance of church family. We are always glad to offer pastoral care, support and prayer. Please don’t hesitate to just ask; there are a variety of ways to get in touch:

The Abbey Office is currently closed but there will be someone answering phone calls and emails remotely from Monday to Friday 10am -12pm. There will be an answerphone the rest of the time which will be usually checked on Thursday.

Should you need to urgently contact the Abbey for pastoral needs please contact our Abbey Pastor, The Revd Chantal Mason on 07908-326819 or email: [email protected]

Opening Hours

As a working church that plays an active role in the community, the Abbey is at times closed for general visiting due to services or special events. Please see changes and variations to opening times below.
