UPDATE TO ABBEY OPENING TIMES: We are now open for visitors and public worship. Please see Opening times for details. As we recognise not everyone will be able to join us in person, we will continue to share worship, prayer resources and choral music online.

Welcome to Bath Abbey

Let the Abbey bring you comfort and joy this season. This year, things may be a little different but there are still plenty of ways that you can celebrate Advent and Christmas with us. Whether you are joining us in person or online, we hope you make Bath Abbey your home for Christmas.

Revd Canon Bridgewater, Rector of Bath Abbey

Message from our Rector

Come unto me, all you who are weary and are heavy laden” said Jesus to the crowds who gathered around him, “and I will give you rest”.

It is a great delight to be able to throw open the Abbey doors once again, so that all may draw near to the Lord in the stillness of this holy place.

I join the whole Bath Abbey family in praying for God’s love and renewing strength to greet you afresh, and to fill your hearts with peace as you draw near to Him”

The Revd Canon Guy Bridgewater
Rector of Bath Abbey

We are open: Covid-19 Safety Measures

We look forward to welcoming you to Bath Abbey, and are open daily for visiting and worship. However, as a working church, our opening times are subject to changes, sometimes at short notice. Please always check the Opening Hours on our website before visiting to avoid disappointment.

We have made some changes to ensure everyone can enjoy the Abbey safely. We are supporting NHS Test & Trace and are part of Visit England’s “We’re Good To Go” industry standard. To find out more, please see our Keeping you safe page.

You're invited to come in to pause and reflect, pray or light a candle. You'll be able to walk around and enjoy your surroundings or sit down and rest in the nave. The Birde Chapel and Gethsemane Chapel are also open and chaplains will be available to offer their support and prayers. Although we are not running group tours, there is still plenty to see and do.

Find out what to expect by watching this short video of the inside of the Abbey.

Opening Hours

As a working church that plays an active role in the community, the Abbey is at times closed for general visiting due to services or special events. Please see changes and variations to opening times below.
