Choir membership lists

Names of members of the Gentlemens’ and Boys’ choirs are listed in the Abbey Yearbooks which run from 1896 to 1939, and an index of members of the Gentlemens’ and Boys’ choirs 1921-1996 is also available through the Abbey archives. As a result, it may be possible to check whether someone was a member of one of the Abbey choirs. However this would depend on the date, as the archives, unfortunately, do not hold continuous records of membership for the Abbey choirs, nor do they hold biographical information about former choir members.

Other records relating to the history of the Bath Abbey choir can be consulted at Somerset Archives and Local Studies:

Choir newsletters

These are available from 1985.

Organ records

The archives hold records relating to the 1895 Norman and Beard divided organ, the 1913 Sir Thomas Jackson organ and the 1997 Klais organ

Music lists

Lists of music sung at Sunday services are available from 1972 to present.
