New piano donated to Abbey

We are very excited to have received a brand new piano, very kindly donated to the Abbey by Chelverton Asset Management. The piano will be used in the choir vestry, next to the main Song School, enabling the Music Department to use the vestry as a separate music room for smaller groups on a regular basis.

Huw Williams, Director of Music at Bath Abbey, said, “this is a wonderful new resource for the Abbey choirs and will allow us to have a variety of rehearsals in smaller groups. The lovely new Kawai piano will compliment the glorious new Song School and inspire singers to give of their best. We are very grateful to Chelverton Asset Management for their support in this purchase.”

Rehearsals for soloists, smaller groups and for theory learning, will happen supported by this new piano away from the main rehearsal in the Song School. This instrument will give the Abbey musicians, and visiting choirs, greater flexibility when planning rehearsals.

The Chair of the Board of Chelverton Asset Management commented, “music learning is a clear opportunity to nurture so many life skills in young people and Chelverton Asset Management are delighted to be investing in the future of Music education at Bath Abbey, encouraging growth and realising potential.”
