La Serenissima

Drama Centre London

The perfect Opening Festive night for this Olympic year – Bath International Music Festival hosts the UK stage premiere of Vivaldi’s magical and rarely performed opera, L’Olimpiade.

Bringing a glittering cast of international opera singers, accompanied by a 19-strong Baroque ensemble, award-winning company La Serenissima are the world’s foremost experts in Vivaldi. This fun-filled, high octane evening brings the story of the Olympic champion Megacle and his love for Princess Aristea – an epic full of wit, mistaken identity and show-stopping arias.

This fast-moving production is staged in the beautiful setting of Bath Abbey, and mixes virtuoso classical performance with contemporary movement and magic from Drama Centre London.

“…the highlight of the concert for me had to be Mhairi Lawson… the kind of clear and brilliant notes that pin you to your seat, knock your hat off and then blow you a kiss afterwards"
The Independent

The evening opens with a free spectacle of Baroque Carnival outside the Abbey at 6.30pm, with Wells Cathedral School natural trumpet ensemble playing music by Cesare Bendinelli, Girolano Fantini and Claudio Monteverdi.

Tickets £32, £25, £18, £14, £10 (Concessions available)
