Become a volunteer

Bath Abbey is a wonderful place to spend time; it is a beautiful place with many interesting stories, a rich history and a warm and welcoming community. Volunteering could be a great way to meet new people while allowing you to make the most of your interests and existing skills - it also can be very satisfying and a lot of fun. Just ask one of our many enthusiastic and lively volunteers whose ages range from 18 to over 80!

We are currently recruiting volunteers for:

WELCOMERS

Welcomers provide a warm, friendly and sensitive welcome to all who enter the Abbey, and are the first faces a visitor will see. They give brief initial information and accept entry donations.

STEWARDS

Stewards make visitors from around the world feel at home in the Abbey, by answering questions about the history, architecture and religious nature of the Abbey, or the City of Bath and sometimes, just by having a chat with someone who will appreciate it.It’s a varied volunteer opportunity where you might also be asked to help a person in need - by finding one of the Chaplains for a quiet talk, or to be the eyes of the Bath Abbey team with regard to simple housekeeping tasks and health and safety.

MONEY COUNTERS

The main purpose of this role is to assist the Finance Team to count, bag, reconcile and record the donations made to the Abbey. There are a variety of roles involved, and it helps the Finance Team if volunteers can turn their hand to all of them. Tasks include counting and bagging coins using a sorting machine, counting notes using a weighing machine and checking amounts recorded at daily cash counts, shop cash counts and Gift Aid envelope counts. We are currently recruiting vfor this role.

Footprint Fundraising Volunteer

The Footprint team is looking for volunteers to help fundraise for our exciting and transformative project.

Over the next few months, volunteers will be chatting with visitors to the Abbey about the project and how it will help to restore and renew the Abbey. They will encourage donations to the Footprint Project by promoting our Localgiving Match-Fund Campaign to visitors and help them to make an online donation via the Localgiving webpage.
