Become a volunteer

Here at Bath Abbey, we have a team of over 300 volunteers! We are so grateful to them as they support us in simply everything from helping welcome our visitors to ringing the bells for services.

Volunteering could be a great way to meet new people while allowing you to make the most of your interests and existing skills - it also can be very satisfying and a lot of fun.

Just ask one of our many enthusiastic and lively volunteers whose ages range from 18 to over 80!

CONTACT US

If you are considering volunteering your time either occasionally or on a permanent basis, or simply wish to find out more, please contact Gwen James, Volunteer Officer, on email: volunteer@bathabbey.org or phone: 01225 422462.

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteers:

WELCOMERS

Welcomers provide a warm, friendly and sensitive welcome to all who enter the Abbey, and are the first faces a visitor will see. They give brief initial information and accept entry donations.

STEWARDS

Stewards make visitors from around the world feel at home in the Abbey, by answering questions about the history, architecture and religious nature of the Abbey, or the City of Bath and sometimes, just by having a chat with someone who will appreciate it. It’s a varied volunteer opportunity where you might also be asked to help a person in need - by finding one of the Chaplains for a quiet talk, or to be the eyes of the Bath Abbey team with regard to simple housekeeping tasks and health and safety.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE ADMIN VOLUNTEER

The Visitor Experience Admin Volunteer supports the work of the Visitor Services Team in several ways. They complete regular administrative tasks to help prepare the team for the week ahead, provide exceptional customer service by answering visitor enquiries by email and, under the guidance of the Visitor Services Manager and Deputy Visitor Services Manager, work on small projects to enhance the visitor experience at the Abbey.
