| Bath Abbey has a long
tradition of high quality music.
|
The Abbey Choir plays an important role in the Abbey's ministry. Recent developments in the structuring of the Choirs have resulted in a rejuvenated and revitalised choral establishment. The Abbey currently provides a rich variety of services, underpinned with fine music, and it is proud of its capacity to do this. Wishing to deepen the Abbey's spiritual life we appreciate the significance of well considered liturgy; and, in developing the ordering and presentation of services, we are ready to use our considerable resources as fully and flexibly as possible. A programme of special services has been developed, notably on occasions such as Advent Sunday, Christmas Eve, Candlemas, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and All Souls Day. These are well attended by many more than the regular 'Abbey faithful'.
The Abbey Choir (Boys or Girls, and Men) leads the worship on Sundays. Bath Abbey Music Society supports other Choir activities such as promoting concerts, funding recordings etc. Details of recordings can be found by visiting the CDs of Bath Abbey Choir & Organ page. The Music Society also promotes a series of Organ Recitals and Lunchtime Prom Concerts during the summer on our magnificent Klais Organ.
The Abbey is the largest concert venue in Bath and, in addition to events sponsored by Bath Abbey Music Society, hosts many concerts during the year, notably during the Bath International Festival.
Bath Abbey welcomes Visiting Choirs to sing Sunday services (at 11.00 am and 3.30 pm) at times when the Abbey Choir is on holiday. Check link for availability.
More about individual music events hosted by the Abbey can be found on the Abbey What's on page.
An overview of the services in the next month is available, which has information about the music and preachers in the Abbey services.
