If you are interested in the architecture of the Abbey then there are plenty of records to look at.
The archives contain a number of plans relating to work carried out to the building in the 19th and 20th centuries. Modern architectural plans based on surveys carried out in 2007 are available for consultation, while paper copies of the 20th century ground plans of the Abbey can be supplied for a small charge.
There are many records relating to general work to the Abbey building. There are also records relating to major restoration programmes of the 19th and 20th century:
- George Manners’ restoration (1833-34), including a full set of plans
- Sir Thomas Jackson restoration of the West Front and exterior (1899-1903)
- Post War restoration (1947-1960)
- Bath Abbey 2000 restoration (1991-2000)
NB The archives do not hold any records for the George Gilbert Scott restoration (1863-74).
