Pentecost Appeal 2017

Global Mission Month
7 May - 4 June 2017

The Abbey works with charities and aid agencies in Bath and around the world, expressing Christian hospitality and justice. This year's Pentecost Appeal is bigger and better. During May 2017, we will hosting a series of events and presentations to spotlight four of our global mission partners. The aim is to raise awareness, inspire involvement and encourage prayer and giving for our Pentecost Appeal.

Sunday 7th May, 9.30am and 11.15am

Guest speaker: Ms Elaine Waddington

Elaine volunteered for three months as an Ecumenical Accompanier in Israel / Palestine, providing a protective presence to vulnerable communities, monitoring and reporting human rights abuses.

Saturday 13th May, 7-9pm

Sunday 14th May, 9.30am and 11.15am

Guest speaker: Father Antony Paulsamy

‘Reaching the Unreached’ is a charity in South India caring for the needs and priorities of the poorest, especially women and children, empowering them for a brighter future.

Guest speaker: Mr Paul Solly

Paul heads Client Development with Genesis Trust a Bath based charity supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable people, helping them improve their lives and prospects.

Abbey speakers: Revds Stephen Girling and Evelyn Lee-Barber

Stephen and Evelyn have been involved with ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ a prayer initiative inspired by the Archbishop of Canterbury: nine days of prayer to see people become followers of Jesus Christ.

Saturday 3rd June, 7:30pm

Presentation: Mr Omar Haramy  

An opportunity to hear Omar Haramy who leads the work of Sabeel in Jersualem.  Sabeel is a Palestinian Christian Liberation Theology organisation which promotes non-violent resistance and justice in Israel / Palestine.

Omar witnesses to the life of a Palestinian Christian.  We will also show a short film about the Balfour Declaration, the centenary of which falls this year.

Guest Speaker: Omar Haramy

Omar is the director of the Palestinian Theology Group Sabeel, working with Christians in Israel / Palestine to stand for the oppressed, work for justice and engage in peace-building.

‘Raising Voices’ – an exhibition of 22 photographs from Israel / Palestine to give voice to the plight of the beleaguered church in Israel / Palestine.
